Role Purpose
To provide learners with a rewarding and stimulating English language learning experience. To promote and ensure quality teaching and effective learning of English. To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
Main Accountabilities:
Teaching
Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning needs and modes of learning.
Ensure teaching meets British Council Global Teaching Standards, as well as organisational and learner expectations.
Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout their learning and actively promote learner autonomy and progress.
Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
Teaching Centre Activities
Support teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans.
Attend staff meetings and otherwise contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service through dissemination of information and communications with students.
Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values. Ensure British Council’s values and behaviours are reflected in their work.
Customers and Stakeholders
Maintain good relationships with customers and colleagues.
Ensure customers are aware of British Council’s cultural relations role and help develop opportunity for students to gain some understanding of the UK and its values and to participate in inter-cultural interactions either in class or as out of class activity.
Compliance
Ensure guidelines and policies are applied and upheld in relation to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability, Health and Safety.
About You (essential requirements for the role):
2 years post-certificate experience (TEFLi) (and/or equivalent to 1,200 hours). Experience in teaching relevant age groups to be specified by the centre
Secondary aged 11 to 17 (400+ hours)
Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
As appropriate within Global British Council Teaching Standards at a CORE or HIGHER stage
Demonstrate subject knowledge

Make use of assessment and feedback
Manage teaching and learning resources Uphold professional responsibilities and values

High proficiency in English i.e. CEFR level of C2/ IELTS Band 8+ in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
University degree or equivalent
Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Certificate TESOL (TEFLi) or equivalent
Desirable requirements for the role
Recognised diploma in EFL e.g. DELTA/ Trinity Diploma (TEFLq)
Specialism where appropriate e.g. YL qualification: TYLEC (or equivalent), PGCE/BEd in Primary or relevant subject.
