Role Purpose
 
The purpose of this role is to promote and ensure the delivery of high-quality English language teaching and effective learning experiences for all students. It also supports the broader objectives of the British Council by contributing to its mission of fostering cultural relations and mutual understanding between the UK and other countries.
 
Accountabilties
 
The British Council is seeking a passionate and dedicated Instructor of English to deliver high-quality, engaging lessons tailored to diverse learner needs. The role involves planning and teaching English classes, monitoring student progress, providing feedback, and fostering learner independence. Instructors will also contribute to course development, complete administrative tasks, and participate in professional development. The position supports marketing efforts, ensures excellent customer service, and upholds British Council standards in safeguarding, equality, and compliance. Qualifications & Experience
Essentials 
  • Recognised Certificate in EFL i.e. CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL (or equivalent)
  • University Degree or equivalent 
  • 2 years full-time post Certificate (i.e. CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL) experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels, i.e. young learners and adults (we will, however, consider strong applications from candidates who do not meet the two years post-cert requirement):
  • Note a minimum of 1200+ hours experience should have been gained from teaching two or more of the following age groups: 
    • • Young learners aged 4 to 7
    • • Young learners aged 8 to 12
    • • Young learners aged 13 to 17
    • • Adults aged 17 +
 
Desirables
  • A DELTA, DipTESOL, or other TEFL Q qualification
  • Relevant Master’s Degree, or PGCE
  • Young learner ELT qualification (e.g. CELTYL, TYLEC)
  • Very Young Learner ELT qualification (e.g. NILE Teaching English is Pre-Primary Education)
  • SEN qualification
  • Working in a mainstream school in Thailand, teaching centre in Thailand, or similar context
  • Working with large monolingual groups
  • Working with SEN learners

  • Salary & Benefit:
    • Gross Monthly Salary: THB 56,126 to THB 66,822 (salary scale depending on qualification and experience)

  • Language Requirement: High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
  • Domestic/International Travel: This posting may require travel within or around Chiang Mai or to Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand to locations other than their designated place(s) of work. The British Council will provide the postholder with support in such instances.
  • Weekend Working: The post requires working on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00am.
  • Working Hours: Teaching centres operate from 8:00am to 9:45pm up to seven days per week, and partner school operations typically run 7:30am to 3:30pm, 5 days a week.
