Role Description & Purpose

 

Join the British Council and play a vital role in delivering high-quality examinations services that support learners, professionals, and institutions worldwide. As an Exams Operations Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating the effective and efficient delivery of examinations within your location, including all post-exams processing activities.

 

You will act as a key point of contact for venues and Test Day Staff, supporting their engagement, performance, and relationships before and during test days. The role involves identifying, coordinating, and escalating risks or issues as required, while ensuring excellent customer communication either directly or through customer services teams.

 

A key responsibility will be the secure management of confidential examination materials in line with compliance requirements. This includes overseeing the Confidential Materials Room (CMR), managing logistics, and ensuring the quality and availability of all materials required for test delivery, including stationery, uniforms, banners, and IT equipment. You will also ensure the timely scanning and submission of exam papers for marking and support enquiries on results processing.

 

The role sits within the British Council’s English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit, which helps people worldwide access life-changing education and career opportunities through English language learning and trusted UK qualifications. In the EU region alone, around 400,000 exams are delivered annually, making examinations a core activity, a significant source of income, and a key part of promoting the UK as a leading provider of high-quality assessment services.

 

 

Role Accountabilities

 

In this role, you will deliver high-quality, secure and compliant exam services. You will coordinate all operational activities before, during and after Test Day, including confidential materials management, venue and staffing coordination, logistics, script processing, results administration and customer issue resolution. You will oversee compliance, risk management, audits, reporting and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring an excellent customer experience. The role includes managing external suppliers, coordinating multiple stakeholders, supporting team development and participating in a rotational Duty Officer roster, including occasional early mornings and weekends.

 

We are looking for candidates with experience in operations, logistics, examinations, education or a customer-focused environment. You should have strong organisational and planning skills, excellent attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure, sound problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality, compliance and security. Experience leading people, coordinating vendors and working with data, reporting systems and administrative processes is highly desirable. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills are essential.

 

Qualifications & Experience

 

Essential

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of C1 level
  • Working in a challenging environment operating against very tight deadlines
  • Working in a compliant and regulated environment
  • Ability to build relationships with external stakeholders (i.e. exam boards)

Desirable

  • Experience in managing a (small) team
  • Experience working in an environment managing confidential materials
  • Experience of leading on delivery of computer-based exams
  • Relevant qualifications and degree in any subject

 

Important Information

 

  • Location: The position is fully office based, located in Bucharest, Romania
  • Contract Type: This is a two-year fixed term and full-time position.
  • Working Pattern: 8 hours/day, 5-day working week, 40 hours/week.
  • Salary: Pay range 4H, 6,500.00 -7,400.00 RON
