Role Purpose
- To contribute to the achievement of Teaching Centre Academic Quality Plan and business objectives by supporting the delivery and development of high quality adult courses
- To deliver and facilitate quality teaching and effective learning of English
- To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission
Main Duties:
- Plan, prepare and deliver 15 hours of high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups taking into account individual learning styles and complete teaching related duties to specified standards
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy
- Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the Kandy Teaching Centre operation as a Duty Manager (when required) and Emergency Officer (on a daily basis) and a member of the Colombo Academic Management Team.
- Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices
- Work as a core member of the Adult Learning team, contributing to the quality improvement of existing courses, researching, and developing new products and materials and providing academic and logistical support for the smooth running of all adult courses.
- Ensure safeguarding and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
- Child protection
- Equal Opportunity and Diversity
- Safety and Security
- Anti-fraud
- Information management
Qualifications and Experience
Essentials
- University degree ( in any discipline)
- DELTA or Dip TEFL/TESOL
- High proficiency in English i.e. IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
- 3-4 years’ post-certificate (i.e. Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL) experience
- Secondary & Adults General English 16+ (1,500+ hours)
- Young Learners aged 6 to 15 (850+ hours)
Desirables
- Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (TYLEC)
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
- MA in English Language Teaching (ELT)
- Early Years aged 4- 6 (250+ hours)
- Teaching and designing IELTS preparation courses
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: Basic monthly between 2,40,000 LKR - 3,00,000 LKR (depending on qualification and work experience).
- Annual Leave: Annual paid leave is 35 days.
- Medical Allowances: Group Medical Insurance cover with an inpatient cover of LKR 750,000 per family unit.
- Settling-in allowance :(if you are recruited from outside Sri Lanka) - Equal to 3 weeks' salary for an accompanied employee and equal to 2 weeks' salary for the unaccompanied employee. Separate Rent loans for expat / overseas recruited teachers and then are deducted from salary. Assistance provided by Resources by sharing leads for brokers for searching accommodation. Permanent accommodation to be paid by employees themselves
- Baggage allowance :(if you are recruited from outside Sri Lanka) One Time accountable Baggage Allowance £ 1,200 for single employees and £ 2,000 for accompanied
- Other Allowance:
- 29,000 LKR/month - If recruited from the country
- 100000 LKR/month - (Travel + Living) - if you are recruited from outside Sri Lanka
Important Information
- Contract Duration: 24 Months
- Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract
- Contract Hours: 37.5 hours/week
- Local restrictions on employment: Applicants must have the right to work in Sri Lanka.
