The British Council is seeking an organised and proactive Exams Operations Officer to support the smooth and secure delivery of examinations at a local test centre. The post‑holder plays a key role in managing confidential materials, coordinating venue staff, and ensuring an excellent candidate experience on Test Days. As part of the Council’s new global exams operating model, the role will support the roll‑out of updated systems and processes and help embed new ways of working. The position requires flexibility, including weekend work as part of contracted hours.


Key Responsibilities

The Exams Operations Officer ensures that Test Days are delivered to the highest standards of security, accuracy, and customer service. This includes planning and preparing all operational arrangements, organising resources on short notice, monitoring performance dashboards, and managing the secure handling, storage, and distribution of confidential exam materials. The post‑holder coordinates and supports venue staff, inspects venues for readiness, oversees Test Day delivery, and acts as the main point of contact for any issues or queries. They resolve operational challenges as they arise, maintain accurate records, ensure compliance with emergency and security procedures, and safeguard candidate wellbeing throughout. The role includes responding to customer enquiries, managing escalated issues, contributing to risk and compliance activities, supporting audits, and providing analysis and reporting to inform continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree
  • Desirable: Master’s degree

Knowledge & Experience

  • Essential:
    • Experience in a busy operational environment with strong customer‑service delivery.
    • Ability to monitor and maintain compliance, risk, and security standards.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working in exams delivery.
    • Experience supporting computer‑based exams.

Skills

  • Proven ability to work within a controlled, process‑driven environment.

Additional Information

  • Weekend work is required as part of normal contracted hours.
  • Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in the country where the role is based; visa support may be offered at the British Council’s discretion.
  • The role involves work with staff who interact directly with children.
