Role Description/Purpose

The British Council is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Sales Representative to join our Sales and Customer Service team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who enjoys engaging with customers, providing expert advice, and helping learners achieve their English language learning goals while contributing to the organisation’s commercial success and global mission.

As a Sales Representative, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality customer consultations across face-to-face, online, and telephone channels. You will ensure that every interaction reflects the British Council’s values and commitment to excellent customer service while supporting business objectives related to customer acquisition, conversion, retention, and satisfaction.

Working directly with prospective and returning students, you will take time to understand individual learning needs and aspirations before recommending the most suitable English language courses and services. Through professional and informative consultations, you will answer questions, explain available options, and guide customers through the registration process, enabling them to make informed decisions about their learning journey.

The role requires a consultative sales approach, combining strong communication skills with product knowledge and a genuine commitment to customer success. You will be expected to achieve individual and team sales targets by providing accurate, helpful, and persuasive advice that builds confidence and trust. You will also identify opportunities to promote additional products and services where these meet customer needs, supporting cross-selling and up-selling activities that contribute to revenue growth.

An important aspect of the position is the accurate recording of customer interactions, consultation outcomes, and relevant information within CRM and other business systems. Maintaining high-quality data will support customer follow-up activities, reporting, and business insights, ensuring that customer engagement remains effective and informed by reliable information.

As part of the Sales and Customer Service function, you will work closely with colleagues from Customer Service, Teaching, and Marketing teams to deliver a seamless and positive customer experience. Through collaboration and shared objectives, you will help ensure that customers receive consistent support throughout their interactions with the British Council.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about customer engagement, enjoys working towards targets, and is motivated by helping people access high-quality educational opportunities. In return, you will gain valuable experience within a collaborative and customer-focused environment, with opportunities for cross-functional working and structured career development within the Sales and Customer Service function.

Role Accountabilities

We are seeking a customer-focused and commercially driven Sales Representative to join our Sales and Customer Service team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional customer experiences through professional sales consultations across face-to-face, online, and telephone channels. By understanding customers’ needs and aspirations, you will help prospective and returning students identify the most suitable English language learning opportunities while ensuring every interaction reflects the British Council’s values and commitment to excellence.

As a Sales Representative, you will act as a key point of contact for customers throughout the consultation and registration process. You will build positive relationships with learners and, where applicable, parents, providing guidance, answering questions, and ensuring a smooth and supportive customer journey. Through effective follow-up and ongoing engagement, you will encourage enrolment, strengthen customer loyalty, and support student retention.

The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to business performance by meeting agreed sales and conversion targets. Using a consultative approach, you will present appropriate course options, address customer queries and objections, and recommend additional products or services where they provide value to the customer. Your focus will be on delivering trusted advice that helps customers make informed decisions while supporting organisational growth.

A strong attention to detail is essential, as you will be responsible for accurately maintaining customer records and consultation outcomes within CRM and Student Management Systems. You will ensure that data, payments, invoices, and customer information are recorded correctly and managed in line with financial, safeguarding, and data protection requirements.

To succeed in the role, you will maintain an up-to-date understanding of the British Council’s courses, products, promotions, and policies, enabling you to provide accurate and relevant information to customers. You may also conduct placement assessments, where required, to determine learners’ language levels and ensure they are enrolled on the most appropriate course.

You will play an important role in ensuring that customer feedback is acted upon and that any concerns or after-sales issues are addressed proactively and professionally. By sharing customer insights and supporting wider team initiatives, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of customer service standards and the overall learner experience.

This role is ideal for a confident communicator who enjoys building relationships, working towards targets, and helping customers achieve their learning goals. In return, you will have the opportunity to work within a collaborative and purpose-driven organisation that values customer excellence, professional development, and the transformative power of education.
