Role Purpose

Join the British Council teaching team and deliver engaging, high-quality English language lessons to young learners and adults. This freelance role offers the opportunity to work with a globally respected organisation, support learners in achieving their goals, and contribute to building connections and understanding through education.

Main Accountabilities:

As an English Teacher, you will plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons that meet the needs of a diverse range of learners. You will monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and encourage learners to take ownership of their development to achieve their language learning goals.

Working collaboratively with the teaching team, you will contribute to the continuous improvement of courses, learning materials, and services, while completing teaching-related administrative tasks to a high standard. You will also actively participate in professional development to maintain excellence in teaching practice and support the British Council's commitment to innovation in English language education.

You will uphold the highest standards of safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all learners.

Qualifications & Skills
Essential

High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of the 4 sections of the academic module, or CPE Pass or above.

Undergraduate degree or equivalent  

Cambridge CELTA certificate (or an equivalent qualification recognised by the British Council), together with experience teaching the following age groups:

  • Young learners aged 6 to 7 (100+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 8 to 10 (200+ hours)
  • Young learners aged 11 to 17 (200+ hours)
  • Adults General English (200+ hours)
Desirable

Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. DELTA

YL Ext. to CELTA or recognised equivalent (e.g. IHCYL or TYLEC)

IELTS Preparation
