Role purpose

The British Council would like to offer fresh graduates an experiential learning opportunity to gain real world experience through an internship programme. The practical experience an intern gains is expected to complement the theoretical knowledge he/she has gained during their studies. The Intern intern is expected to both learn from, and contribute to the workplace during the internship period, in turn providing an opportunity to increase employability skills.

The intern will be based in Lagos and will provide operational & administrative support primarily to the Director of Examinations, Nigeria. They will also be required to support Nigeria Exams Leadership Team with internal communications, logistical support, scheduling, coordinations and monitoring of various business initiatives.

The role is designed to help early-career professionals build practical skills, professional confidence, and industry experience. The successful candidate will gain exposure, access and opportunity to work directly with senior stakeholder across internal and external partners.

 

Role context

The English and Examinations Strategic Business Unit (E&E) is one of three strategic business units in the British Council (the others being Arts and Education & Society) all of which have the remit to build trust and connection for the people of the UK by building relationships through aspects of our language and culture. E&E SBU achieves this by enabling people across the world to access the life-changing education and work opportunities that are created by learning English or gaining valuable UK qualifications.

Promoting the English language also provides a medium for communication, helping break down barriers of misunderstanding or mistrust between cultures. The Executive Support assitant intern will have an opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills in a workplace as they gain more experience to function in a fast paced professional environment.

Main accountabilities

  • Provide operational & administrative support primarily to the Director of Examinations, Nigeria and other members of the Nigeria exams Leadership Team.
  • Stakeholder correspondence and coordination across internal and external partners.
  • Scheduling and organising internal meetings and workshops including logistics planning as may be delegated by the Director of Exams.

  • Candidate Must have completed the National Yourth Service Corp (NYSC) or have certificate of exemption.
  • Be a recent graduate (Maximum 3 years post NYSC) with excellent organisational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Have good organisation, time management and scheduling skills.
