The Department for Education has announced that the British Council is set to take on the role of National Agency for Erasmus+.
In December the UK and EU arrived at a political agreement that the UK would rejoin the Erasmus+ scheme in 2027. That agreement has now been legally formalised under the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
The British Council has a longstanding commitment to supporting international exchange. It was a lead partner in the Erasmus+ UK National Agency from 2014-20, where Erasmus+ made a significant contribution to the UK's cultural relations activities, funding 8,091 projects, engaging 583,757 UK participants, and awarding around €1.1 billion to UK organisations.
Job Title: Erasmus+ Head of Data and Reporting
Pay Band: SMP
Salary: £55,699 gross per annum plus £3,300 per annum London Market Allowance for those in the London area only.
Contract Duration: 2 Year Fixed Term Contract with possibility of extension

Role Purpose:
The Head of Data and Reporting provides strategic leadership for the Erasmus+ programme's end-to-end data function, including reporting, analysis, data governance, data engineering, data access and integration, and data science. The role is responsible for setting and delivering the programme's data and reporting strategy, ensuring a cohesive approach that supports programme delivery, accountability, and impact.
You will be accountable for data quality, accessibility, governance, and performance insight, ensuring all outputs meet Department for Education, European Commission, and British Council standards. Through effective monitoring, reporting, and analysis, the role enables informed decision-making, drives continuous improvement, and supports the programme in demonstrating its outcomes and impact.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead the Erasmus+ programme's data and reporting strategy, ensuring alignment across reporting, analytics, data governance, data engineering, and data science.
- Develop and oversee reporting frameworks, KPIs, dashboards, and performance measures to support programme monitoring and reporting to key stakeholders, including the Department for Education and European Commission.
- Ensure the quality, integrity, accessibility, and governance of data across the full programme lifecycle, from application and assessment through to grant management, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Oversee the development of secure and effective data systems, pipelines, and integrations to support data access and reporting across multiple platforms and partners.
- Lead the delivery of high-quality insights, analytics, and data science solutions to inform decision-making, identify risks and opportunities, and improve programme performance.
- Act as the senior expert and trusted adviser on data strategy, reporting, and evidence requirements for internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with British Council, Department for Education, and European Commission standards, regulations, and assurance requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement through the development of data assets, reporting tools, and performance monitoring that support programme assurance, evaluation, learning, and impact measurement.
Role Specific Knowledge & Experience:
Essential
- Significant experience leading BI or analytics teams in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Proven experience with enterprise BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Expertise in data visualisation design, accessibility, and communication of complex insights.
- Strong understanding of data modelling, governance, and quality assurance in BI contexts.
- Strong Python (or R) and SQL skills for BI work.
- Experience establishing and enforcing analytical and reporting standards across large organisations.
- Understanding of ethical, privacy, and accessibility considerations in data and visualisation.
Desirable
- Experience of working in public sector organisations or international organisations.
- Experience developing and managing a BI style guide or equivalent governance structure.
- Experience contributing to enterprise data platforms or cross-functional analytics programmes.
- Familiarity with Azure-based data technologies and Power BI service administration.
- Professional certification in BI, analytics, or data visualisation (e.g. Microsoft Certified Data Analyst).
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies and product development lifecycles
Specific Requirements
- Degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Professional certification in Power BI, Tableau, or data analytics desirable.
