Role Purpose

The role is responsible for delivering high-quality, fair, and independent outcomes for IELTS examinations investigations and appeals, ensuring decisions meet the needs of internal stakeholders, awarding bodies, and test takers while upholding integrity and standards.

Role Accountabilities

The role is responsible for processing and managing appeals and investigation cases, liaising with centres to obtain required information, and recommending outcomes to Cambridge while ensuring timely, professional, and objective decisions in moderate to significant risk contexts. It involves identifying and escalating priority issues, maintaining accurate records and reports, meeting quality and performance targets, and supporting verifications and EOR-related appeals as required. The role also contributes to process improvements, applies specialist knowledge of appeals and investigation systems, prepares reports using standard and non-standard tools, and works closely with internal stakeholders to deliver high-quality, customer-focused services. Strong professionalism, flexibility to support other business areas, and adherence to corporate, regulatory, and office-based working requirements are essential.

Role specific skills, knowledge and experience

The role requires a candidate with at least one year of experience in IELTS-related work, backend operations, or investigations, with strong communication, analytical, and decision-making skills, excellent attention to detail, proficiency in MS Office, and the ability to plan, prioritise, inspire, and support others, along with a proactive approach to problem analysis and resolution and willingness to work from the office; experience working within dispersed teams and the ability to adapt positively to change are considered desirable.

 

Further Information

Language: Strong English proficiency is crucial for this role, requiring fluency in both written and spoken communication to effectively navigate British Council systems and international operations.

Education: The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree as the minimum requirement, while a postgraduate qualification is considered desirable.

Locally recruited: Applications are welcomed from candidates currently in this location with a natural right to work. Relocation support is not provided.

Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders will need have, or be able to obtain, a valid special work permit issued from Government of India (GOI) to work in the British High Commission (BHC). BHC will not be able to sponsor work visas or obtain/ assist with the special work permit from GOI. Offers of employment made to OCI card holders will be conditional upon candidates obtaining a special work permit.

Work Schedule: This is a 24/7 on-site role with rotating shifts, including night shifts. The position offers two days off per week, which may not always fall on weekends. Flexibility and adaptability to a continuous shift-based environment are essential.
