Job Overview
British Council’s English Language Centre in Paris was opened in 1998. We offer a wide range of Young Learner classes to 4,000 learners aged between 3 and 17 during the Academic Year and to another 2,000 during the holiday courses. The adult program began in 2007 and now offers the flexibility of MyClass, a system in which adults book lessons individually as preference. A part-time teacher will be expected to be available to teach a range of ages and courses at any of the British Council’s delivery locations and will work with a large and highly successful team of teachers and academic staff.
Role Purpose:
English language teachers in the Île-de-France region are committed to delivering high-quality instruction, ensuring effective learning tailored to diverse customer needs and individual styles. They provide regular feedback, foster learner autonomy, and actively contribute to the continuous improvement of courses and materials in collaboration with their teaching team. Beyond classroom teaching, they fulfill administrative duties to maintain educational standards and support the broader mission of the British Council, promoting cultural relations through language education.
Accountabilities
In the Île-de-France region, English language teachers are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering 6 to 12 hours of high-quality instruction per week, tailored to the needs of diverse customer groups and individual learning styles. They continuously monitor students' progress, provide regular feedback to support performance management, and encourage learner autonomy. Additionally, they contribute to the development, evaluation, and enhancement of courses, materials, and related services by collaborating with the teaching team to better meet students' needs. Alongside their instructional duties, teachers also complete administrative tasks to specified standards, ensuring the smooth operation of the educational process.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Certificate TESOL.
- Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre (Any two):
- Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+)
- Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
- Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
- Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (800+ hours)
- Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
- Cambridge suite and IELTS exam preparation courses
Desirables
- Specific Young Learner (YL) extension course e.g. Certificate in English Language Teaching to Young Learners (CELTYL) or Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (TYLEC) or Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE) etc.
- Either a recognised diploma in English as a foreign language e.g. DELTA, or
- Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Bachelor of Education in primary, secondary, or any relevant subject
Important Information:
- Salary: 543 - 965 Euro per month for 12 months (Depending on hours offered, qualification, and work experience)
- Guaranteed hours with competitive rates of pay, including paid preparation time (31 hours of paid training time)
- Continuing professional development with an extensive INSETT programme and additional support for new starters with less experience. Internal and External courses available to develop your career.
- External training is funded by the Teaching Center for suitable trainees.

- Interview Mode: Face to Face, at Paris teaching centre in mid-June (dates will be shared)
- Start date: September 2025
- Teaching hours/week: 6 hours per week (for 30 weeks of the Academic Year)
- Duration: Permanent on completion of the probationary period.
- Working day: Saturday ONLY (opportunity for more hours)
- Right to Work/Passport Requirement: Applicants must be eligible to work in France. The British Council will not be able to assist non-EU nationals to obtain a work permit for France
