Role Purpose

Supports the successful delivery of the Education portfolio in Brazil, including British Council global programmes covering student mobility, tertiary education partnerships and non-formal education, as well as client-funded programmes.

The role provides financial administration, reporting, data collection, operational project delivery and stakeholder management, ensuring compliance with British Council policies and procedures.

Role Context

Cultural Engagement (CE) is one of two global strategic departments within the British Council, bringing together Arts, Education, English & School Education and research. With approximately 1000 staff globally and income of £200 million in 2024/25, CE delivers impact through research and insight, sector engagement, policy dialogue and a mixed portfolio of commercial and Grant and Partnership Funded (GPF) work.

Education is organised into three strands:

 

  • Student Mobility & Internationalisation – supporting the Higher Education sector to attract international students to the UK, engage UK alumni and develop international perspectives, policy dialogue and partnerships.

  • Tertiary Education Partnerships – facilitating Higher Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Science Partnerships between the UK and other countries.

  • Non-formal Education – empowering young leaders and marginalised groups through skills development to support trust, cohesion and stability.

 

EDI is embedded across this work to promote respect, inclusion and diversity and deliver mutual benefit.

The role supports the successful delivery of the Education portfolio and strategy by providing high-quality administrative, financial and logistical support, ensuring projects and programmes meet internal and external standards.

 

Role Accountabilities

Managing Self & Others

  • Hold vendors and suppliers accountable for delivering services.

  • Work independently and manage workload effectively against project deadlines.

Financial Support

  • Support project financial planning, budget expenditure and forecasting, including management of smaller budgets.

  • Maintain accurate financial records in line with audit requirements.

  • Ensure timely vendor payments and maintain strong supplier relationships.

  • Ensure compliance with British Council financial policies and procedures.

Project Management

  • Manage project data, including data entry, quality assurance, basic analysis and progress reporting.

  • Support due diligence, records management, data collection and storage.

  • Manage grants administration, selection, evaluation and procurement processes.

  • Coordinate events and training components within programmes.

  • Support the Education and Cultural Engagement teams in implementing EDI and diversity mainstreaming actions.

Relationship & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage relationships with clients, partners and stakeholders.

  • Manage vendor and supplier relationships and ensure delivery against agreed requirements.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

  • Contribute to an inclusive and anti-racist organisational culture.

  • Recognise and address personal biases and promote equitable treatment and wellbeing.

  • Apply the British Council’s EDI approach across Education projects and programmes.

  • Engage in learning and development related to EDI and anti-racism.

 

Role Specific Skills

  • Experience supporting programmes or projects.

  • Administrative and financial administration experience.

  • Good understanding of basic monitoring and evaluation concepts and their role in effective project management.

 

Work Mode

 

Please note- This is an onsite role. We need candidates who are comfortable to work from office minimum of 3 days in a week. 

 

Language

The British Council systems and global processes operate in English. Written and verbal proficiency in English is required.
