Role Description/Purpose
The British Council Georgia is looking for an inspiring educator and emerging leader to join our dynamic academic team in Kutaisi as an Academic Coordinator.
This exciting opportunity combines classroom teaching with a leadership and mentoring role in a unique academic environment at Kutaisi International University (KIU).
Role Accountabilities
We are seeking an Academic Coordinator to join our team and play a vital role in shaping the learning experience. This position involves teaching General English and Exam Prep classes for up to 18 hours per week, working with both adults and teens to support their language development. In addition to teaching, the Academic Coordinator will provide mentoring to teachers, assist with lesson planning, conduct observations, and facilitate professional development initiatives.
A key responsibility will be coordinating and contributing to materials development, internal testing, and quality assurance, ensuring high standards in educational delivery. Acting as the primary academic contact for the location, the role requires close collaboration with local and central teams to maintain smooth operations. The Academic Coordinator will also be involved in initiatives aimed at improving learner outcomes, enhancing the overall learning experience, and fostering teacher development.
Qualifications & Experience
Essentials
- University degree.
- Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (CELTA) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certification.
- A minimum of 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
Desirables
- Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) i.e. Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (DELTA).
- Any of the following certifications: Cambridge Young Learner Extension to CELTA; Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate (TYLEC); or BCTYLEC.
- 4 years post-certificate teaching experience i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL.
- Line management or coordination experience.
- Previous experience working in higher education institutions.
Important Information:
- Language requirements: Proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) C2 level.
- Location: Kutaisi International University (KIU).
- Gross monthly salary: CELTA-qualified 3,360 GEL and DELTA-qualified 3,780 GEL.
- Proof of Identity & Right to Work: Applications are welcomed from candidates with a natural right to work. Applications are also welcomed from candidates currently based in other British Council country offices. However, please note candidates must have a natural right to work in the country, on a permanent basis, as immigration clearance and/or on-going visa support is not provided by the British Council for this role.
- Contract type: 12-month service contract (renewable by mutual agreement).
- Contracted hours: 24 hours per week (50% on teaching & 50% on administration and coordination).
- Working Hours: 5-day working week - Teachers will be scheduled for at least 12 teaching hours/week, with opportunities for additional hours paid as overtime.
