Purpose of job:
Responsible for ensuring tax compliance in Tunisia and Morocco, including preparing and filing accurate tax returns with supporting analysis, reconciliations, and records.
Acts as the main contact for local tax matters, supporting audits, liaising with authorities, and assisting local teams with operational tax queries.
Main opportunities/challenges for this role
Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:
Tax Compliance
- Preparation and filing the Tax return (VAT, CIT, WHT, Stamp Duty and any other applicable taxes) in a timely manner in line with the requirements of local legislation. Ensuring the Tax return is approved internally ahead of filing.
- Assisting with system testing associated with Tax related changes ensuring systems are tax compliant.
- Monitoring Tax calendar, including all tax payments, to ensure compliance with tax authority’s deadlines.
- Preparation of Tax balance sheet reconciliations by set datelines.
- Monitoring of Tax queries, ensuring prompt response to all issues within strict timeframe.
Tax Advisory
- Advisory on queries related to taxation issues.
- Advisory on tax related system changes.
- Advisory on process related changes brought in by amendment or introduction of tax laws.
- Analysis of the information reported to the authorities and identify any possible risks which BC can face in future.
Meeting with Stake Holders
- Conducting regular meetings with various stakeholders to understand the processes and check if there are any gaps in the same due to introduction or amendment in tax laws
- Keeping the stakeholders updated with the amendments in tax laws
Documentation Review - Procurement and Sales
- Review of invoices in terms of compliance with the requirement of tax laws
- Reconciliation of the purchase/sale register viz-a-viz returns
Review of recent updates in taxation
- Review of any clarification or communication issued by the authorities with respect to its applicability on BC operations
- Sending out correspondence to the concerned stakeholders regarding the updates affecting BC operations
- Implementing the changes brought in the systems and processes due to the tax updates and suggesting changes to comply with the same
Tax Audit
- Ensuring all necessary documents are stored as required by the local legislation, including supporting statements around areas of judgement that have been taken. Ensuring approvals which have been given internally.
- Supporting any Tax audit process and ensuring all necessary documentation is made available Providing the tax inspector with the appropriate documents and analysis needed for the inspection process.
- Support MENA Regional Tax Lead /Global Tax Team with the preparation of communications to be sent to the tax authorities.
Tax Accountant may be required to work for other countries in the MENA region as and when required.
Role specific knowledge and experience
- Knowledge of Tunisia, Moroccan GAAP
- Good excel skills including pivot tables and knowledge of SAP
- Ability to explain complex financial data to non-finance people, using non-technical language.
- Ability to work under pressure. Good time management and data management.
- Working in virtual teams.
Minimum/Essential:
- Required experience in Tax
Desirable
- Experience working in Tax consultancy firm and have SAP
Requirements:
